Work with Fountain files
Plain-text scripts, and the Fountain format at a glance.
Fountain is a plain-text format for screenplays. eDraft opens plain-text files (.txt) written in Fountain. To give an eDraft script (.draft) to an app that reads Fountain, export it. See Export Fountain or plain text.

Fountain has no way to record an omitted scene or a highlight, so in Fountain scripts, Omit Scene is dimmed and highlights aren’t kept. In eDraft scripts (.draft), Omit Scene is dimmed too, but highlights are kept.
