Open a Final Draft file
Open a .fdx script and keep working in it.
eDraft opens Final Draft files (.fdx) and saves your changes back to the same file, so the script stays a Final Draft file.
- Choose File > Open (⌘O).
- Select the .fdx file, then click Open.
You can also Control-click the file in the Finder, then choose Open With > eDraft.
Note: eDraft saves your changes to the .fdx file as you work. To keep an unchanged copy, duplicate the file in the Finder before you open it: select the file, then choose File > Duplicate.
What you see
The script’s text, scene numbers, title page, and notes open in eDraft. Notes written in Final Draft can be read but not changed. Scenes omitted in Final Draft appear as OMITTED cards.
What eDraft keeps
A Final Draft file can hold things eDraft doesn’t show, such as revisions, locked pages, and tags. eDraft keeps them in the file, and when it saves, it rewrites only the parts of the script you changed.
If the script has locked pages, eDraft tells you the first time you edit it. See Edit a Final Draft script with locked pages.
